The Prince and Princess

Shelby had her 18 month check up today. She weighed 25 pounds and was 31.75 inches tall! She does not like going to the doctor very well. She cried when both the nurse and doctor approached her.

Thank goodness for Starburst candy! We got through the appointment. She did get one shot. And she cried (as most kids would). Afterward, I told her I would be taking her to see Will, Coleman, and Keenan. She perked up immediately and was back to being herself again! I hope she always gets that excited to see her brother.

Will and Shelby are growing right before our eyes. Today, I was thinking of how I used to rock Will to sleep while he was an infant. As he became a toddler, I would ly down right beside him in his toddler bed and stay there until he fell asleep (yes, believe it or not his bed was big and strong enough for both he and Momma!). I remember when I used to nurse Shelby and rock her in my arms until she fell asleep. She's getting to big to be cradled so she lays her head over my shoulder at night. And when she feels the time is right, she'll reach out and give me a big kiss. I sometimes get several kisses!
Her hugs are special too.

This evening was bath night. Will and Shelby both love taking baths. If you mention the word bath, Shelby gets so excited. She will say "Baff" over and over until you take her into the bath.

Blake and I feel very special to have such wonderful, healthy children. We all often take life for granted and don't realize how much God has richly blessed our families. Our children are healthy and smart and we thank God for that everyday. There are so many children who are less fortunate, especially those struggling to live in Haiti. Take time to give your child an extra hug or kiss tonight. Hold them tight and tell them how much you love and adore them!

Playdate with MOPS

On Friday the MOPS group met at KC's gymnastics. Both Will and Shelby had a great time. I spent most of the time keeping up with Shelby! She was all over the place. So much so I didn't get one single picture of Will. Open gym is every Friday so I'm sure we'll be going there often. It's a great place for the kiddos to burn off some energy!

Shelby was so tired when it came time to eat lunch.
She ate and then fell asleep!!

Doing What She Does Best!

Shelby is one who loves to try on other people's stuff (e.g. shoes, underwear, jewelry, hats, etc.). You name it! She is definitely a girl! She loves getting into just about anything. Here are a few moments captured over the last several months.

She somehow got a hold of Bubby's underwear.
She tried putting all of them on at the same time.

Clearing out Bubby's hat drawer and a few others.

One morning in her crib. Trying so hard to take off her clothes.

If there is a basket full of toys, I can bet you Shelby will be in there too!

She took her initials off her bed.

Removing all the diapers from the diaper cabinet.....

to get inside and play peek-a-boo.

If she's hungry and missing in action, you might find her
on the kitchen counter eating an apple!

She's an impressive apple eater!

Bubby thinks it is funny when mommy has her hair wrapped in a towel. He asked me to put a wrap on Shelby's head. Shelby got a kick out of it and ran to see herself in the mirror!

Bubby got a new pair of light up Sketchers.
Shelby of course had to try them on too!

Proud Mommy Moments

I am having one of those proud mommy moments!!

Will is such a smart guy. He started reading about 3 weeks ago. His nightly routine consists of watching one cartoon and reading one book. We usually read to him. He gets to pick whichever book he wants. Tonight he let me pick! I asked if he would read
Put Me in the Zoo. And he did just that! He read about 98% of the book!!! Daddy and I are so proud of him. It kind of makes me sad my baby is growing up. He always asks, "Mommy why do you call me baby? Shelby is the baby." I tell him it is because he will always be my baby no matter how big he gets. I guess that's what we mom's do! Believe it or not, my mom still calls me her baby. I used to hate it too. I guess now I understand. So much changes when you have children of your own.

Shelby is learning to talk and interact a little. She seems to have picked up several new words this week. I got a kick out of her her last week. On Friday evening she started with a fever. She and I barely slept that night. Short story version was she had canker sores on the back of her throat. When she woke up that night (at 2AM), she and I went past Will's room and with a finger to her mouth she said (or should I say shouted!), "Shhhh, Bubeeze....shhhh, Bubeeze!" She continued to repeat herself as I ran the both of us into the guest room. I was afraid she might wake Will. That sick little girl (with a temp. of 202.2) had me giggling!

Kids are so much fun!!

Merry Christmas!

On Christmas Eve the four of us headed to Nana and Papa's for Christmas. We attended First Baptist's Christmas Eve service that evening. We sangs lots of beautiful Christmas carols. We later had dinner at Nana and Papa's. It's a family tradition to have chili and hot tamales on Christmas Eve. It sure was yummy!

Nana's beautifully decorated tree!

Look at all those presents!
This was just half of them!

On Christmas Day Nana and Papa prepared another great meal. The biggest blessing of all was having Great Granny there to enjoy it with us. Later that afternoon we opened presents. Will and Shelby were in awe of all they had received. Santa was very good to us all!

Shelby singing her own Christmas carols

Will's very own set of clubs!
It's going to be a fun summer!

Our Family Christmas

We celebrated Christmas with Will and Shelby on Christmas Eve morning. Will wrote his first letter to Santa on the eve before Christmas Eve. He and I put together a plate of chocolate chip cookies and a glass of milk for Santa too. It's hard to believe this was Will's fourth Christmas and Shelby's second Christmas! Time sure flies!!

Will writing a letter to Santa!

Will wrote the entire letter himself! Mommy and Daddy were super proud!

A letter from Santa, thanking Will for the milk and cookies!

Shelby discovering toys left by Santa!

Looking a little sleepy, but having lots of fun with their toys.

Yea! Baby dolls are Shelby's favorite!
She calls them "babeeze".

Will was excited to see he got his very own suitcase.
Something he's been wanting for a while.

Lots more goodies from Santa!
